At 47 metres tall and more than 100 metres above sea level, Leuca’s lighthouse is among Italy’s most important. It marks the symbolic end of the Italian mainland and has guided shipping since 1866.
The square in front is a favourite spot to gaze at the horizon. The monumental staircase with its artificial waterfall (active on special occasions) links the sanctuary to the harbour. A walk at the ‘blue hour’, when the beam sweeps over dark water, is unforgettable.
